Estonian Karl Patrick Lauk won the 37th Tartu Road Race
Last year’s Tour of Estonia (UCI 2.1) winner Karl Patrick Lauk triumphed today in the biggest road race in Eastern Europe, the 37th Tartu Road Race. He finished the 135 km race with a time of 3:00.05, beating Lithuanian Darijus Dzervus and Swede Jacob Eriksson in a group finish.
Decisive break on the magical South-Estonian roads came 33 km before the finish when six cyclists (Dzervus, Eriksson, Lauk, Russian Eduard Vorganov, Estonians Rein Taaramäe and Alo Jakin) managed to break away from others. They worked as a group stayed in front until the end. In the final meters Lauk outsprinted Dzervus and Eriksson. Lauk became the first Estonian winner of the Tartu Road Race since 2013.
„It has definitely been an event that I’ve wanted to win sometime in a life. Overall the weekend was okay. Yesterday we tried everything but didn’t succeed (read more about the conclusion of Tour of Estonia 2018 <http://www.tourofestonia.ee/en/news?news_id=222> ), so today’s victory is kind of a good consolation prize,“ Lauk said after the race.
Estonian Kelly Kalm won among women, finishing with a time of 3:23.15. She finished 108th in the general classification.
A total of 3713 riders registered for the 37th Tartu Rattaralli – 2035 for the shorter, 56 km race and 1678 for the longer, 135 km distance.
Tartu Maraton’s Cube series will continue on the 26th of August with the 12th Tartu Rulluisumaraton (inline skating marathon).
