Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and Red JerseyLorena Wiebes said: “It feels great to already win stage 1. It was chaos before the final because of the long straight before the last corner, but I got a very good lead out. We planned to sprint on the right side knowing the wind was blowing from the left. It’s great to have the world champion for the lead out. Lotte [Kopecky] love working for each other. I would have preferred to sprint against Charlotte Kool like last year because I would have known more where to position myself. At the difference of last year, I’m the race leader after stage 1. It means the pressure will be more on us tomorrow but we are ready for that”.
