GOOD MORNING FROM ROVIGO. A FINALE FOR CLASSICS SPECIALISTS IN VICENZA
In the final 50 kilometres, the riders will face a series of short, sharp climbs, including a double ascent of Monte Berico (1,200 metres at 7%), where the finish line is located

 

Rovigo, 23 May 2025 – Good morning from stage 13 of the Giro d’Italia, organized by RCS Sport, and running from 9 May to 1 June.

The Rovigo–Vicenza stage is split into two parts: almost entirely flat for the first two-thirds, and packed with climbs in the final stretch. There are four categorised climbs on the route, with the highlight being the double climb of Monte Berico, with the second ascent marking the stage finish. It was on this very finish line in 2015 that Philippe Gilbert took victory ahead of Alberto Contador and Diego Ulissi.

The peloton, 171 riders strong, crossed the KM 0 at 13.04.

The Fighting Spirit Sanmarco Informatica prize for yesterday’s stage went to Andrea Pietrobon (Team Polti VisitMalta), who is wearing the Red Dorsal. The Colombian rider is also wearing the Blue Dorsal after winning the Red Bull Km

Velon’s unique live rider data system is being used again in the Giro d’Italia. Riders carry a tracking device on their bikes and their position, speed, power and cadence is delivered to the live broadcast to provide insights at key moments in the race. The data can also be seen on Road Code. Velon is producing onbike footage and video from inside team cars from each stage of the race.

THE ROUTE
STAGE 13, ROVIGO-VICENZA, 180 KM

The route

The profile is perfectly flat at first, except for the short Passo Roverello ascent, on the Colli Euganei. At 60 km out, the route begins to follow the undulations of the Monti Berici, taking in the San Giovanni in Monte ascent. After a first pass over the line, the riders will enter a circuit of approx. 20 km, and will negotiate the Arcugnano ascent (Via Pilla) before the finale at the Santuario di Monte Berico. The roads are variably wide and mostly straight, with common traffic obstacles to be found in urban areas along the route.

Final kilometres

The last 3 km are entirely flat at first. The closing climb begins with 1,200 m to go. The final kilometre has an average gradient of 7.1%, nearing 10% in the final part, and peaking at 12% right at the end of the kick up.

 

STATISTICS

  • Rovigo hosts a stage start for the fifth time, the first since 1946: the finish in Trieste was won by local hero Giordano Cottur.
  • 183 Giro stages have ended in Veneto, third behind Lombardy (270) and Tuscany (197).
  • Veneto has produced 64 Giro stage winners. The top scorers are Marino Basso (15 wins) and Moreno Argentin (13 wins).
  • Two Giro winners were born in Veneto: Giovanni Battaglin (1981 edition) and Damiano Cunego (2004). Battaglin secured his 1981 Giro win in his home region, in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo stage.
